Why don't NFL players were pads?

I understand it makes them faster but it also causes more injuries...look at merriman he hurt his knee and also he doesnt where knee pads...just seems dumb 2 me

Everyone is looking for an edge, but if it means leaving yourself open to injury, then it does seem mighty stupid. You'll probably take some flack for (were) instead of (wear), but the question was a good one.

all football players wear pads. some wear less than others preety much becuase of the reason you gave. for example, most kickers dont where any time of padding on th legs, reason being its easier to kick with. Wide recievers dont wear knee pads becuase it gets in the way while running. Most players who are on the line wear full pads becuase their getting hit and hitting players every down. Merriman probably doesnt wear knee pads becuase he probably cant be as quick with pads on his knees, but hey, their football players, they dont need all those pads.

in the nfl pro's will do whatever it takes to be the best, if that means no knee pads will make them a split second faster, which in turns makes them a few million dollars richer, they will do it

like you said it makes them faster that's the whole reason behind that. and if you look its not the line that doesn't because they don't have to be fast so its all about the speed and that makes a big difference in the game

NFL players do wear pads but it's custom fit so that it looks like they aren't wearing pads.
