Question:

Why don't Rochester, NY companies hire good workers?

In the past week I quit my job because of management problems. I have applied to several companies throught various job seekers web sites and i have recieved two interview calls. Sometimes the first day a company puts a ad in the paper , you respond and they say the job has been filled. Maybe it just because Rochester is so small? What do you think?

  1. I'm not sure what type of answer you are looking for.  Sometimes companies are just "fishing" to see what types of people are out there.  There are numerous companies that are hiring, however, they do not post their open positions; they have a HR division that actively recruits employees.  The company I work only hires based on employee referrals.

As far as Rochester being small, I'm not sure that's accurate.  If you look at the surrounding area you have over a million people.  There is Greece, Henrietta, Penfield, Pittsford, Gates, Chili, Rush...etc...all within a 25 mile radius.

I guess it all depends on what type of job you are looking for and how hard you are willing to work to find that position.  In regards to management issues they do say 85% of people that leave their job, do it because of management, not because of the lack of interest in their profession.  There is plenty of opportunity in this area, you just have to be able to put up with crappy bosses from time to time and the grey weather that seems to engulf Rochester quite often.

I wish you the best of luck in your career search.
