Why is it that people complain about immigrants not learning English and Billboards in Spanish, but when it comes to the business owner, he'll pay for Spanish advertising and will gladly accept your payment regardless of what language you are speaking?

  1. Because they realize that the Latin community is a money-spending power-house. You know what's really funny? A lot of people complain about so-called "anchor babies," but imagine having to go clothes shopping for a family with 6 kids (which is what my mom had and she's Irish, by the way... so I guess its not just the Latinos pushing out babies).

That's an awful lot of money going into the economy - and that's just ONE example!

  2. Some do, apparently you don't follow the news. The problem is when these businesses exercise their right to demand that only english be spoken the Government wrongly steps in and threatens them with litigation.

  3. Money because business do what ever it takes to sell and sometimes they know is easy to sell to the Hispanic community.

  4. because its a business.the economy's hurting, and it wouldn't make sense to lose business over something like that. discrimination does not make for sound business.

  5. The function of a Business is to make money. Business owners are not the politicians, policemen, teachers, social scientists or reformers of the world. They build money machines and successful ones (business owners) make sure that their business (money machine) is running properly.

  6. Nothing personal, only business, like the Godfather said

  7. Some do - and that number is growing.

"NO ESPANOL - ENGLISH ONLY"  is the most common verbage used on the signs I have seen.

For those who are totally unaware of our laws - a business DOES have the right to refuse service to anyone.   Nowhere in the civil rights code does it state that homage must be paid to those who refuse to speak english - it only states you can't discriminate against national origin.  Spanish is a language, not a nationality.

  8. Money Talks

  9. 1. It's against the law 2. It's not good for business

  10. money, chico. es all about the dinero ;)

  11. Its all about the money.. don't you love the scent of hypocrisy?

  12. Capitalism is not national origin specific.  Ever watch Sponge Bob?  They are all like Mr. Krabbs.

  13. A business owner does not necessarily know if the customer is a tourist, just here on a brief vacation, or a legal immigrant, struggling to learn the language and everything else that goes along with immigration, or an illegal alien or immigrant who refuses to try to learn.  We want to be nice to our genuine visitors!  We try to help those who struggling to learn a foreign language -- it can be hard.

There are some businesses who are "English only" and they have taken a great deal of flak for it.  But when frequent customers refuse to try to learn the language of the country, somebody needs to step up and say that for their own good and the good of the country, we do really need one common language, and that lingua franca in the US is English.  So good for them!

  14. It's fun to take the money away from people who don't belong..
