  1. For one, a lot of states with the return on recyclables, like cans, are either mandated by the state, or added instead of tax for certain levies.

South Carolina used to  have it on glass bottles.  But, the companies, buying the bottles, stopped recycling them, and using plastic instead.

The United States, uses more glass for containers, than any other modernized nation.  Many things come in glass; wine, beer, juice, baby food, and sauces.  Frankly, they could save money by using paper cartons, or even plastic, as the bottle companies have in the past.  The money could be saved in shipping, and in loss prevention.

Have you ever traveled in a state that has bottle deposits?  Guess what you won't find wasted on the sides of highways and roads?  Not to mention not having to pay people to clean up those roads from litter.

  2. good question!

because all people arent thinking on the environment unfortunately.

  3. There is no national recycling deposit so each state sets their own.  They are as high as 10 cents per bottle or can in PA and CA and I think MI.

So the reason we don't have 25 cents national is that it is currently regulated at the state level.

  4. ITs political........  Here in Florida there is no refund on any bottles or cans.   I can tell you this - You won't find a can and if you do - it will be gone in a few days ( scrap alum ) Plastic  Bottles, thats a different story..
