Why don't all the gold medals look the same?

I've noticed that some gold medals are all one color and some seem to have what looks like a plastic ring on them.. like in these pics

I think it just depends what side of the medal you are seeing in the picture.

Yes, it depends which side you're looking at.

One side of the gold medal has a white ring and the other is shiny and gold.

I personally would wear it with the gold side facing because I think the rings look awful, especially the black ring on the bronze medal.

Don't know for sure but it could be based on the event or based on whether it was a team or individual event.

the front of the medal is the golden face, while the back of the medal has a ring of jade which is incorporated into the medal's design by the chinese...infact, all the medals regardless of colour, has the ring of jade

hi, they are the same, just the rear side is inserted of jade. New appearance of medals.
