Question:

Why don't canned peaches have any red?

I very very rarely ever buy canned fruits/vegetables but I noticed today that every canned peach i've ever seen was completely yellowish orange without even the tiniest bit of red you see in fresh peaches near the peel and in the center near the pit. Are these kind a different variety or are they maybe not allowed to riped to the point of the red color? Just curious thanks!

  1. because when they cut out the pit they cut out that part as well. it's a machine process so it's normally very uniform. same for when they peel it. they peel off what's on the surface.

  2. Actually, I DO see a little red near the pit section, whenever I happen to buy them.......But, they're peeled, so it wouldn't be near the outer edge

  3. They get the skins completely off, I have seen red near where the core was before if they leave a piece of core behind.

  4. It's because part of the canning process includes peeling the peaches.  They have no skin and that is where the pigmentation comes from.  Also, most peaches are cling peaches, and are picked before they have a chance to ripen to the point of producing pigmentation.

  5. it could be because they r not ripe or it could be that they r soaked in juice in the tin . who knows we will have to try it out just out of curiosity
