Why don't car manufacturers produce vehicles that hover?

I previously asked a question about what did people think about the 'flying saucers' being produced by Moller but my question received a violation notice!

And was deleted.

Actually they do make a hovercraft that can stop... you can find info. about that on my website at:

  1. If "hover" means to remain stationary in one place, I've already got one.

  2. How would you stop it?? with no ground contact it would have no brakes come on totally un practical. And we have cars that fly. They are called planes!!

  3. They are not fuel efficient, too difficult to steer and stop. However for certain off-road uses such a vehicle would be ideal.  Hover-cars or Ground Effect Vehicles are being used by police and the military.

A car which flies is an air-plane or helicopter.  The technology to make flying cars as seen in the film "The Fifth Element" has not yet been invented.

I don't know why no one has tried building a steam-electric hybrid, they would be cleaner, able to use multiple fuels, more efficient, more reliable and just as safe as internal combustion hybrids.  E-mail  beesidemeusa@yahoo.co.uk  and ask about the idea.

  4. they don't have the technology.

  5. probably because most people have hard enough time keeping the 4 wheels on the ground without hurting or killing someone.. imagine what they could do with cars that hover... Total Ciaos.

  6. I think it would probably be because of the high cost of it all

  7. There is a car being developed called the Moller Skycar. It's a step towards what I believe you're asking, but the logistics of such a car being mass produced, sold and us having the infrastructure to support vehicles like this on our roads or in our skies is quite impractical I think. The technology exists in infant form as far as I know, but can you imagine driving a car with little or no friction on the road? There are enough lunatics on the road! Road traffic accidents would probably soar!

  8. lol, i suggest that the hover technology would be similar to the Harrier jet or "jumpjet" as its nicknamed. If this was the case, then massive amounts of fuel would be required "about 15-70 pounds of fuel per minute for the Harrier. If everyone has this type of vehicle, then the world oil supply would diminish in a matter of years.

  9. You can buy a car sized hovercraft if you want - they are on the market.

You wouldn't want to take one out on the highway though, with nothing touching the ground they would be really hard to steer and brake.

  10. There's enough people on the road who can't control their vehicals without making it harder for them.

  11. LOL you know they did . A long time ago i think its been a little over 20 years the Moller corporation in California came out with a flying car . I did get to see the darn thing just before the government took it over in fact i had to be interviewed by a general just to look at the darn thing and yes i got the third degree all the way down to the strip search anyway this thing kind of reminded my of the jetsons car . Anyway it used rotary engines the old Wankel design but they miniaturized them to the size of a lawnmower motor each motor put out 150 horse and would burn just about anything . the craft had multiple motors on it . It was as small as a car you could park in the garage .Would float on water. and go as fast as a jet . I don't know what ever happened to it you would have to ask the government but they would probably denied it like they do everything . But i swear to God it was real . I can imagine all the things the government keeps secret from us probably things that would make our brains do a flip .

I think we are so much farther advanced in allot of things but there all kept from us by the government or maybe even a bigger force that's kept secret from us also.

LOL I just took a look at the moller sky car that" Hope for the best "is talking about . Its about the same thing i seen but the one i seen would fly not just skim across the top of water but hey glad to know there still out there.

  12. Probably for the same reasons that they do not put the research and developement into producing viable and realisticly priced electric cars.

  13. I'm sure they will once drivers have mastered the art of driving on the roads! I see bad driving every day - cars are killing machines in the wrong hands.....think about it...when you next get behind the wheel....what's going through your mind? What you're having for tea? What you're doing at the weekend? I'd guess you're thinking bout everything BUT driving!

  14. Hover cars will be just for fun and not allowed on public roadways.  They take a long way to stop and need a lot of room to corner.  Also, the fuel costs would be very high, I believe, just to float the car and its occupants.

    Probably very noisy too.

  15. For the same reason they don't produce cars that brew beer.

  16. do you have any idea how much that would cost to make and then retail

also just to show you up there is one on this site
