  1. because the cat hasnt learned to trust you yet...

  2. Some animals just don't like it.  Others do.  I have a dog that HATES having her belly rubbed, and I have a cat that loves it.  It depends on individual personalities, not species.

  3. because they feel safer when they are on there paws so that if a predator comes they can run from it.

  4. I'm not sure why. I have two cats, and one does like having her belly rubbed, and the other doesn't. They're not like dogs...

  5. I have one cat who hates it and one that loves it...(the one who loves having his belly rubbed also loves to ride in the car - go figure;) guess he's just an unusual cat!!!

  6. Some cats just have different personalities. I have 4 cats (2 females and 2 males) and only 1 of them doesn't like having her tummy rubbed. It might have something to do with the sensitivity too.

  7. My cat likes his belly rubbed sometimes, depending on his mood. Normally, he doesn't but if he's really sleepy and placid he likes it. But he loves being rubbed under the chin and down his neck. LOL.

Another cat I have loves it, she lies on my lap and I tickle her belly, I admit, most cats don't, as it must be a sensitive area, but this cat really does.

  8. My cat likes having its stomach rubbed.  He just doesn't roll over and beg for it like a dog.

  9. Well cats are more gentle than than dogs (who like their stomach rubbed) and its just a senitive part. Also, you don't like someone coming up to you and rubbing your belly. LOL.

  10. um well my loves its belly being rubbed maybe it sensitive

  11. Some do some don't.. I find each cat has a unique personality and each one prefers to be pet in a different spot. 2 of my cats love belly rubs, and the other does not.. I think it's just personal preference. Maybe it tickles some and not others.. maybe it just doesn't feel good for some.. Who knows? I do know that if your cat doesn't like his/her belly rubbed that you might lose a finger if you try anyway!! lol

My cat Topaz bugs every visitor for a belly rub.. she comes up on the table and stretches out her belly for a rub..

  12. For cats to allow someone to rub their stomach puts them in a position that is vulnerable to attack.  If a cat lets you pet their stomach, then they are really comfortable and trusting.

We have 4 cats, and three of them were initially resistant to having their belly rubbed.  Now, only the little girl is hesitant.  With time, they have come around to feeling more secure.

I have known people with cats that never show their tummy for a belly rub, and others that readily flop over on their backs and practically beg for it.

  13. My cat loves it. It might depend on how trusting they are.

  14. I have a maine coon cat and a blue point himalayan and niether of them like their stomachs touched.   They will actually bite you if you touch it.   I think their stomachs are very sensitive to touch and it really must hurt them.   I just don't go near it.

  15.    Their belly is the most vulnerable part of a cats body (in the wild anyway). I know that you are just trying to give the cat a nice belly rubb, but they don't. The cat may think that you are a threat, or it just doesn't trust you that much.

I have one cat that will only let me pet her,and when my sister snuck up on her and rubbed her belly she freaked out. My sister came in the house with scratches all over her arms. :(
