Question:

Why don't clouds move?

I fly lots and I've noticed flying over/through cloud formations, they hardly change shape, even in heavy storms and high wind, why is that?

Surely since they're just water moisture they'd be ripped apart faster than they seem to?

Any ideas?

  1. Actually, clouds do move. Their speed depends upon the wind speed at their altitude. Their shape has a lot to do with with atmospheric stability. Cumulonimbus clouds continue to grow and change shape in an unstable atmosphere while stratus clouds continue to be flat in a stable atmosphere.

  2. clouds are the product of our enviorment.  go figure

  3. okay, tomorrow sit outside on the grass and stare at a cloud for about 10 minutes. come back and tell us what you see

  4. I thogh clouds do move. When your on the grouncd they do. Maybe they dont look like they are when you fly is because your closer to them and your in them.
