Question:

Why don't enough people care to make a difference?

or to make the world a better place to live? I am all for that! I'd do anything! However, I cannot do it alone, I can't do it myself, that's just impossible. So I try hard to encourage people to get off their butts and do something like donate, be a volunteer, work for a charity, anything! I have myspace and repost many things related to good causes and ask people to repost but hardly anyone does. I see hardly anyone helping at all. Donating, signing a petition etc... doesn't take more than 2 mins, even if it's just a little something. Why don't enough people care? Why do they think that chatting online, myspacing, video games and fighting around and stuff are more important? They wait longer, an animal is closer to death as they wait to be picked up in animal shelters. They wait longer, then a kidnapped child is closer to being raped and killed. They wait longer, a cancer patient is closer to death. You get the picture. Why don't people care when you can see all these?

  1. Because they can't care and work enough for all the miseries around us, so they just drop it all together and go shopping!

I'm not giving them an excuse not to do anything at all, but if you watch the world news everyday, it is just depressing and hopeless.

Of course there are also those who never turned on to the news in the first place, and were never told the have a duty towards the world as a hole!

  2. Just do your part. You are not alone.

  3. Because we have become so jaded that any charity who tries to solicit us for funds or time is making a profit somewhere. We have been used & deceived so many times that it's hard to trust anyone anymore.

  4. Hon, you are a breath of fresh air.   I do hope you keep it up; one of the most rewarding things I've ever done was to volunteer for a pet rescue group.    We found loving homes for literally thousands of animals.

Please don't forget to encourage others to perform another righteous act that doesn't cost a thing---that is, to sign up to  be a ORGAN DONOR.     You can get a sticker for your driver's license from any DMV, or go to your state's dot-org website.    It's a life-saver!   :)

  5. Priorities have changed.  There are still good people in the world, but hard to find unless you are involved in something yourself.  I do a lot of volunteering in my spare time which I love.  I prefer that over myspacing, going to the movies, etc.  It gives me a sense of making a difference.  Remember, it only takes one person to create change.  Be a leader and not a follower and you will see how many good people are left in the world.

Surround yourself with people you admire and aspire to be like.

  6. I still care to make a difference... and I do. People don't seem to care about a lot of things anymore. I don't know why. Maybe it is easier to not care than to care and do something to change the way things are.

  7. This is a great question and one I've often thought about as well.  I think for some people the problems/challenges in the world are overwhelming and so they play ostrich - "if I stick my head in the sand then it's not really happening".

Others care but don't believe they have the power to create change.  Sign a petition, pass on an email, give a few dollars seems pointless to them.

Still others are searching for ways to fill up and mistakenly have fallen into the societal trap of more, more, more is what will make them happy.  Therefore they spend their time and money on materialism things.  In the end, the feeling of emptiness and "something missing" remains and then thankfully some look at ways to fill up on the inside.  Reaching out to others, serving in some capacity certainly does that!

Still others I guess are just plain selfish.  Weren't taught to share, to give, to empathize, to care.

On the other side, there are millions and millions of people who DO care and who do take action.  They probably just don't talk about it all the time or let others know.  It's important to focus on what people ARE doing and be inspired and supported by what they are doing.  For example, keep visiting websites like:

    http://www.dosomething.org

    http://heartsandminds.org/

    http://www.care2.com

    http://www.sixdegrees.org/

    http://www.networkforgood.org/

    http://www.betterworld.net/

Also, keep doing what you're doing.  We all influence others and most of them time without knowing it.  Someone who knows something you're doing tells someone who tells someone and that person takes action as a result but you never find out.  Have faith!

Do you know about the law of attraction?  The popular film and book called 'The Secret' is all about it.  For info, go to http://www.thesecret.tv   You'll find out why it's so important to focus on what people ARE doing rather than what they AREN'T doing -- and all the wonderful people out there who, like you, are taking action for a better world.

  8. We the people=specificaly me, have been offended an hurt by careing!

  9. If you "see hardly anyone helping at all", then you aren't looking.

Concentrate on your own work, and lead by example - you don't know that someone who is chatting online or playing video games isn't ALSO volunteering at other times.

  10. Because the world is going to h**l.  I remember when I used to walk home from school when I was 7 or 8 years old. I would never let my kids do that now. People don't care about anything anymore except themselves.
