....name themselves after rodents, cockroaches, ants, and parrots, rather than jungle animals? Or if jungle animals are a preference, why not hippopotami, elephants or rhinoceri?

  1. The jungle is the ultimate in survival  and conquering. The Lions, Bears, Panthers, Jaguars, and  Bengals are beautiful,  graceful, yet ruthless predators in a place where only the strong survive.  These are the characteristics needed to be Super Bowl Champions.  Where there is a sign of weakness in another team the predator goes in for the kill.  The deeper you get into the NFL playoffs the more weaknesses are exposed which eventually leaves the strongest team standing. Most NFL teams want to be associated with beauty, grace and  strength.  Hippos, elephants and rhinos, lack beauty and grace.

  2. Would YOU be inspired by a team named the "Elwood Elephants"?  What about the Prahran Pansies?  Or the Richmond Rodents?  You could try the Heidelberg Hippopotami or the Ringwood Rhinoceri, if you like...don't reckon you would get many followers?

    Excellent question!

  3. The team names evolved over 50 years ago because of their colours. Footscray were called the bulldogs because they looked British (British bulldogs). The tigers were formerly called the wasps before a fanatical supporter began cheering "Eat them alive tigers!" and the tiger moniker caught on. Adelaide are called the crows because South Australian people are colloquially known as "crow eaters". Sydney (formerly South Melbourne) are known as the swans because of the swans that inhabited Albert Park Lake next to Lakeside Oval (South Melbourne's home ground). The list goes on.

  4. because those names aren't cool. just kidding. it is up to the team owners to decide on the names

  5. i dont really know but i have heard of a team called the rhinos, so.
