Our gerbils spend all day cleaning themselves and each other, why don't they get furballs like a cat would?

  1. Ok I breed gerbils and first the do moult. but they lose there hair very slowly and so it does not group into a ball that the gerbil can eat and then have to cough up.

Also gerbils do not l**k the coat the gnaw on it so the hair doesn't get on in the mouth, the hair is much finer and last their are much smarter than cats!

  2. like Law said, there fur is thicker (: x

  3. Gerbils don't get hairballs, because they don't like clumps of fur off themselves, like cats!

  4. idk

  5. not bein funny but do u want them to have fur balls it would be u cleaning it up so dont complain and i may just be that there fur is not like cats

  6. Different sort of fur to cats- I don't think they can moult due to that fact, so they don't get a hair build-up. When you stroke a cat, normally a bunch of hair comes out, even if they're not losing their winter/summer coat- if you stroke a gerbil, you don't get off any fur, because of the density of it.

    Rabbits can get hairballs, though.
