I was just wondering why that is. There has never been one grocery store donut I've ever eaten that has tasted as good as the donut stores....

  1. If you mean the packaged ones at the grocery, it's a freshness issue.  Doughnuts change as they set.  The really fresh ones taste better and have better texture.

If you mean the doughnuts from the in-store bakery at a grocery store, I can only say you don't shop at the right store!  Where I grew up, the best doughnuts in town were at one of the grocery stores' in-store bakery.  We'd drive past two doughnut shops to go get those because they were the nicest.

  2. it's because the ones at the donut shop are fresher.

  3. Its probably a freshness thing and the recipes are better I think to.

  4. they are stale been in the box for months.

  5. It's just a side-line for them, not their main business.

  6. Asians make it better.

  7. Grocery stores all seem to make their donuts off of the same recipe, and make their donuts in the middle of the night. So, when you come into the store in the afternoon, they are on their way to becoming stale.

Donut shops, however, make their donuts all day long, and have more varieties. Also, the smell of donuts being made is ALWAYS there, so even if you pick a donut that is 6 or 8 hours old, it smells fresh.

However, maybe at your experience level, you may be prejudiced against grocery stores. lol
