Why don't humans have the same amount of hair as other mammals?

Obviously,Humans have hair on their body and more hair in certain "areas" than others.

But I'm wondering why humans don't have enough hair to protect them from the elements?

Other mammals that live in "warm" climates south of the equator southern regions haven't lost their hair to stay "cool" and they have been "evolving as long as long or longer than "humans".

Also, why don't Humans have enough hair to not have to wear clothes in cold climates to survive.

If your considering the idea that we "invented" clothing to stay warm, please reallly think about it.

Why would humans or Pre humans invent something we didn't need as we "evolved"?

  1. Think about sexual selection and women's choice. Perhaps women could tell better about parasite infection on men if they were less hairy. Perhaps it was purely arbitrary. Whatever it was, it was driven into the gene pool and it would effect both men and women.

This is one hypothesis. Others will be suggested to you.

  2. we originated from africa, which is a generally warm country, so originally we didnt need hair to keep warm so the people who's bodies spent more energy on activities rather than producing hair survived more often

after we reproduced many times over there was a lot of migration north to the colder areas where we made clothing for our almost naked bodies, which is where the need for clothing came from

  3. clothing in any form was a response due to self consciousness ,brought about by increased evolutionary brain power? and also because , for the same reasons  we shave.....

  4. One other theory about human development, is that we spent ample amounts of time near water, and would regularly submerge ourselves in water, which made hair optional!

  5. Humans originally "developed" very close to the Equator, where clothes weren't necessary!

One other theory about human development, is that we spent ample amounts of time near water, and would regularly submerge ourselves in water, which made hair optional!

The areas that humans still do have hair, represent the last places left on the body where hair has remained!
