Question:

Why don't judged sports use replays?

With all the technology in sports these days, the one obvious thing is not used at all. In sports like gymnastics and diving, wouldn't it be more fair for judges to look at replays and slo-mo to determine the marks? It seems to me that this would allow more accuracy and fairness in judging than just trusting the naked eye.

  1. They do use it, during the men's team round last night they showed the computers these judges are watching and how they score the event.  The judges do have access to slow motion video of the routine, but it all comes down to this one guy that makes all the final calls on the score.

  2. As a spectator I like things to move along, so I prefer things not to be replayed too much. For example, if you see a good dive with the naked eye, it's a good dive. Surely if you slow mo-ed it, you'd see a lot of the non-synchronisation of the dive and deduct points.
