Why don't kids go to school from 8 to 5

I go to work from 8 to 5 so why wouldn't my kids go to school from 8 to 5??

I mean it seems like that would save everyone alot of trouble and help further educate our underachieving kids.

Is there any good reason for this?

  1. um actually that would be way to tiring for children.

    Its common sense

i dont think kids can take being at school that long

  2. First of all ........... MY "loving SHWAAVAY", don't talk **** about my (our) children. They are not underachievers. They are 6 and 2. Don't be so lazy. I love it when they come home, yes it is stressfull. Kids do take a lot out of you. So maybe instead of talking your **** do something. I don't see you doing lessons with the boys. I do that!!!! I cook, clean, play, go to school and love those boys you ******* a*****e. how dare you get on here and call you beautiful boys underachievers. Seems to me like you have issues of your own.

Don't you ever in you life assume i don't see and hear everything. If we are not good enough for you then **** OFF. Leave, i don't give a ****.

  3. don't be so selfish in saying that everything in the world has to fit into your own schedule

  4. Because they're kids :)

You can't expect them to work 9 hours a day. FYI they also have to do homework as well, so in effect they have also have to work while at home.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

  5. Many kids are in school from 8-5. Some are there at 7am, some sports run till even later than 5, but it can't be solid schoolwork from 8-5. Little kids can't work continuously like that, they need to play, rest, eat, relax and have time to think for themselves, have hobbies and read books, exercise and talk to Mom, Dad and friends and relatives, play with the dog. Generally kids are over-scheduled already with their music lessons, religious instruction and sports.

  6. I'd HATE that.

Waste my WHOLE day in school???

    UGH.

nah. staying until 3 is bad enough.  if i could, i'd wake up earlier.

  7. As a kid, i like time with my family. Did it ever occur to you that besides sports and school we also want to have strong relationships in the house? Alot of kids I know never got that, and now in their teens its too late. And kids are not underachieving! The schools are run by the government what do you expect?

  8. ***** please

  9. Cause then the Democrats get their way..Everyone walking around with books in their hands.

  10. I don't think kids should be sitting in a classroom all day.  Kids should be kids as long as they can.  When they hit 18 they will have to rest of their lives to be adults.  Let them have fun.  Life shouldn't be about books all the time sometimes you have to breath and enjoy life.

  11. making kids go to school for 9 hours would be absolutely ridiculous. i'm 15, and kids my age have a hard enough time getting our homework and studying done getting out of school at 2 or 3. especially considering we have sports practices or games everyday after school, taking up another 2 hours at least. by the time we get home, we're exhausted, and we still have to eat dinner, do homework, and get enough sleep for the next day...which proves to be impossible. and there really isn't any alternative to sports these days, since we need to have a certain number of sports credits to graduate anyway.

i think teens would benefit hugely by school days starting later, possibly 9, and ending around 3. that way there is still 6 hours of the school day and we have a little extra time in the morning to catch up on our lost sleep.

  12. Because this is America.

In Japan kids go to school on Saturday as WELL as the regular weekdays.

Oh, and the 8th graders are learning Calculus in Japan and China and possibly Korea.

So don't generalize when you don't know stuff

  13. Is this actually SERIOUS? I know that I would have a heart-attack if I did go to school from 8 to 5. I have enough already from 9:05 to 3:50

  14. kids won't be able to complete all of their homework because they have such an early bed time

  15. if kids stayed in school that you would have more kids drop out because they wouldn't have time to do stuff.

  16. I have to be in school from 7:30 to 2:10, so that's not a problem.

Besides, at least YOU'RE getting paid for this.

They get nothing in return for their hard work except a lot of c**p.

  17. My school starts at 7:30 and ends at 3...I think it's nuts. I can't concentrate for that long, and I'm a good student. It's just too much! And kids and teenagers can't concentrate and work for as long as adults. I think 8 to 5 would be an awful idea.

  18. I go to school from

    8:05 to 4:30

    It's really long!

I have no time to be a kid!

  19. I think kids should be in school from 8 to 2... They need more time to do other things

  20. Why don't YOU try going to school from 8 to 5, spending the entire day learning things you've never heard before.   Then tell me it's fair to expect a child to do this.

  21. that would be a whole lot easier; maybe cause they would be getting back home sortof late?

or the school board just likes playing god

    hmm

  22. Kids SHOULD be in school   7a.m. til 6p.m.

  23. kids cant stand so much they need freedom too

  24. because that would be just dumb, and plus kids have other things to do then just be in school all day, like sports and plus they have homework. and also BECAUSE WE ARE KIDS!!!!! and you are grown up!

  25. A;ong with D-M-X kids will also not have a enough time for after school activities

  26. They need time to do other activities such as sports or whatever

  27. the only way ud get me to go to school that long would be if we got no home work and less then 180 days of school

accually that will probably happen to my school one day..... last year they added 30 mins and everyone said this year theyre gonna add 15 mins

  28. Hmm, what age are the kids you're considering? 6 years old? 15 years old?

    When I was 6-10 I went to school from 1pm to 6.30pm.

From that point on, I started having schedules that are different each day and each year, but that can go from 8.30pm to 6.30pm. I have had days like so. And it isn't nice at all. You come home when it's already dark, you still have to do homework and have dinner and take care of yourself. Where's time to rest... or study, right? You can't forget there's homework to do. Probably when you leave your work place, you don't think about it anymore until you go back the next day. But kids have stuff to do meanwhile, it's not just the work you do while you're at school.

  29. They would explode, I know I would.

  30. hmmm, why don't we just turn them over to the government nannies at birth and be done with it?  they are doing such a good job at everything else....

  31. no! Let kids be kids geez. You think a 9 year old can handle the same responsibility as a 35 year old? Each year school gets harder and before you know it they will be working themselves. I do extra work outside of school and homework. I even have a tutor for math to get ahead. You don't need school for students to learn. If your really that consider about "underachieving kids" than give them some work to do! And kids especially teens have to deal with a lot of other things. They need time to socialize, grow, and mature. Also, think about sports, hobbies, religions, and other dedications they have to fulfill.
