Why don't more states wise up and outlaw talking on cell phones while driving?

There isn't a phone call that can't wait until a vehicle is parked, and I've seen way too many distracted drivers who should be paying attention to driving, not to a cell phone.

And, no, talking on a cell phone is NOT the same as talking to someone IN THE CAR. Research has proven that.

  1. Is your question targeted specifically towards people who use 'handhelds' in contrast to 'handsfree' or cellphone use in the car in general?

  2. More need to wisen up,  but would it be politically expediant?

And you are correct,   it is not the same as talking to someone next to you.    Even requiring cell users to go hands-free would be an improvement,   as it would allow them to turn their heads to check mirrors and blind spots and free up the hands to drive and operate turn signals.

The physical act of holding a phone to the ear draws ones attention to the call.   We have all seen someone take a call and stand next to the desk ignoring everyone else around them.    Same thing in a car.

  3. When to many people have been hurt or killed. It would be a good law, but you will always find someone that will fight it because, it will violate their rights or some other stupid reason.

  4. I hate it when the drivers using cell phones drive slower than the rest of the traffic and are so distracted they line-cut at the freeway exits and interchanges. I hope the ban is imposed sooner than later because these inconsiderate drivers, the one's using the cell phones, are dangerous esp in crowded or congested traffic situations.

Only one thing worse is a riffraff drunk driver eating a greasy burgher while using a handheld cell-phone rubbernecking an injury accident! Did I mention the added distraction of a visor TV?

  5. I can think of several phone calls that shouldn't wait until the car is parked.

"Hello, police? Someone has been following me and I'm frightened. Can you send an officer?"

"Help me, please. I'm in a very bad neighborhood and I'm lost. I need to find my way out of here."

"I'm following a drunk driver. Please send an officer before this person kills someone. He's northbound on xxxxx now."

I will admit that most calls can indeed wait until the car is stopped. But to say that cell phones should not be used under any circumstances is simply not true.

  6. i guess those people talking on their cell phone cant wait to get to where ever there going to to use their cell phones. d**n please pay attention to your driving. a bunch pf stupit people who drive and talk on their cell phones. you cant drink and drive soon you cant drive and talk on your cell phones. i guess that leaves us with driving and putting on your make up- guess you should of spent more time at home to do that suff.

  7. Its just a matter of time, soon every state will ban this and I hope that it is sooner than later.......

  8. And that's not half as bad as the kids that text while driving.

I tried driving and calling some one only once.... never again!
