Why don't my DX9 games run on my DX10 system??

I cant play any of my old DX9 games anymore since i got my new system. It simply does not want to work. When i installed crysis, it obviously worked without any hesitation. I really don't think DX9 games will not work on DX10 systems so there has to be a problem.

My system specs:

- Windows vista ultimate 32-bit

- 2 8800gts 512s in SLI

- EVGA 780i mobo

- 4gb ram ddr2 1200mhz

- Intel quad core Q6600

I appreciate the help.

  1. The problem is, that Vista's DirectX 10 is not downward compatible with DirectX9.

You need to install DirectX9 yourself first, and then your DX9 games will work flawlessly.

Just find a DirectX 9 game, and on the CD should be a folder called "DirectX" or DX Redist" or something like this.

Install DX9 from that or download it from the website below.

By the way: The guy who sold you this PC should be kicked in the butt. You have 4GB RAM in your PC, but a 32-bit Vista. So a whole Gigabyte of RAM is not usable by this system.

In order to use all 4GB of RAM you will need the 64bit version of Vista.

  2. You need to be a bit more specific about the "don't work" part. What exactly happens? Does your pc squirt flames when you start dx9 games? Do you get a certain error?
