Why don't my great danes ears stick up?

I've seen the great dane show dogs and their ears are erect and pointy. I know my dane is pure bred, but his ears sit along his head (very cutely I might add)

  1. Your dog's ears were not cropped.

  2. Naturally they don't stand up and don't even think about getting them cropped.

  3. Your Danes ears aren't cropped yet. A Great Danes ears can be cropped between 7-12 weeks old.

He sounds adorble! I love Great Danes, espically the white ones with the black spots all over them.

  4. Uhm...because, dear, for breeds such as a Dane, you need to have their ears cropped.

Danes ears naturally sit like this:

But some people crop them, to look like this:

I think Danes look adorable with both cropped, and natural ears. Although I think natural looks cuter.

  5. danes are not born with their ears pointed! you need to have them cropped. this is normally for show dogs, or just because people think it makes the dane finish off its "elegant" look. we have a great dane and her ears are not cropped and i LOVE them it gives her more personality

  6. Great Dane's ears don't just stand up, you have to get them cropped which is a surgical removal of part of the ear for esthetic purposes. I consider it cruelty as it serves no purpose but altering the way a dog looks.

  7. Great Danes need to be cropped for their ears to stay up. A procedure which is illegal in most civilised countries in the world.

  8. you would have had to get your danes ears cropped by a vet to get them to stand erect.

Cropping is done at 7-12 weeks old.
