The headlights work fine until I turn on my high beams, when I turn on high beams my lights go out and I have no light. What could be wrong?

  1. There are several potential causes for a no-pass-beam situation.  Failed bulbs and opens in the high-beam circuit obviously need to be ruled out; if memory serves me correctly, the 1998-up Crown Vic uses two 9007 bulbs for the headlamps.  A failed dimmer switch (or associated relay) will knock out your pass beams as surely as a broken wire.

In the case of an ex-public service Police Interceptor, you ought to watch out for any bad connections in the area where the wig-wag alternator (a type of flasher used in emergency vehicles) had once been installed; a bad terminal could kill your pass beams here, as well.

  2. Dimmer switch is out

  3. because its a ford

  4. Could be either both headlight high beams are out or it could be the dimmer switch. Pull a bulb and look at it. Do NOT touch the bulb with your hands. Use a glove.
