Question:

Why don't my power windows work?

I recently bought an 87 Dodge Ram Van and neither of the two power windows work. I checked the fuses with a tester and they are all good. What are the chances that both of the motors are bad? Or could it be something else entirely?

  1. unlikely to be 2 faulty motors at the same time, even when applying Sod's Law, but there could be a switch some where that allows you to switch the power off to the windows for security.

Sounds like a trace it out job.

  2. Check the relay block as well as the fuses.

  3. if the fuse is good check the switches, they could be bad.

  4. check fuses and relays, then take off a doortrim and check switch and motor.

its possible that the passenger window motor died and the previous owner said "oh well, at least the window on my side works", and then not long before selling it the drivers one carked it too.

  5.      Check the power wire at the center of the up/down switch, touch either side of switch and Listen for motor, find the connection to the motor, disconnect and apply power to each connector  If the motors work there are 3 plastic dowels in the drive gear that break. I've had 2 cars with window problems, both had dowels broken.
