Question:

Why don't my roses smell so good this year (UK)?

normally they are amazing but this year they hardly smell at all anyone experiencing this too?

  1. I haven't noticed.  Perhaps its your nose - do other smells seem the same?


  2. Possibly the time of day you smell them?  The reason I suggest this is that I have several very fragrant old roses that lose much of their punch when the blooms are out of direct sunlight.   Seems the sunlight volatilizes the oils or something.

    Just my guess. :-)

  3. Reckon it's down to the weather. not really been a long period of good warmth . seems to me that those heady exotic fragrances need heat to make them work .

    Have smelt some pleasant rambling/cimbing floribundi types ,but them tea roses are going to suffer wiyhout wamth and dryness.

    Maybe if you keep dead-heading them ,then you will get olfactory joy when we get the heat wave in the 2nd half of this month.
