Why don't new vehicles have ash trays?

It looks so dangerous for drivers to be flipping cigarette ashes and brightly lit cigarette butts out the window. Wouldn't it be better to keep the ash trays in the cars?

Don't smoke so don't think about....It looks dangerous because smoking kills.

it is a smoker's option (RPO) on some gm vehicles. i would guess other manufactures are the same

Most new cars today don't have ashtrays or lighters.

What we get instead of ashtrays are small storage trays, and instead of lighters we now get power outlets.

Seems to me that whether or not they have an ashtray, someone will always choose to flick it out the window.

Idiots will still throw butts out because they don't want to get the ash tray dirty.
