Why are people so vain that they have to procreate? We don't NEED any more people on this crowded planet

  1. It's not true that people don't care about overpopulation.

Most people feel a strong, deep desire to procreate.

If NO ONE procreated, the human race would die out completely, so, yes, we do need to continue to procreate.

Population growth rates are slowing. It used to be that they slowed to replacement or less only in developed countries; that's no longer true.

The more that people feel that most of their children won't die before adulthood, and the more than birth control is known about and easily available, the more likely people are to limit their off-spring to replacement levels or less.

  2. Since when is the planet "crowded"? It's only certain areas that are overpopulated.

  3. Say all of our parents said the same thing. Why procreate? you wouldn't be here and the probably no one else. then they would be scrambling to see if their old eggs and sperm could produce something to live. I think you need a hug! I didn't procreate because of vanity, it happened because I was horny! Find a cure for that then we can talk!

  4. If humans stop procreation, we will soon experience the disadvantages of an aging population. Older people are needed, but so are the young. An aging population will eventually die. Overpopulation isn't the problem. Bad stewardship of resources is the problem.

  5. I was just thinking the exact same thing.  Read this question http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind...

All those women wanting masses of babies - and that's just the ones on YA!  I was going to leave an answer, but what's the point - it's not like my answer will stop any of them contributing to the problem of overpopulation.  I honestly believe they're all selfish - can't see beyond their own ability to reproduce.  OK, two kids is fine - one to replace each parent - but EIGHT!!!!

  6. As others have said here, procreation is a part of life.  A person who chooses to have a child is not adding to the problem of overpopulation.  What is called for here is balance.

  7. People do care about overpopulation, but that doesn't mean they cannot have a child or children they want. Its the normal thing to procreate. It has nothing to do with vanity.

True the planet is getting crowded but it certainly does not mean that procreation should cease. Tomorrow will take care of its own.

  8. Im not sure. I think its selfishness in a way. People think that they HAVE to have a legacy, they NEED children to maintain their image. Or that for some reason, they NEED a big family. All we need is enough people to maintain a healthy and happy existance, and keep everything in balance. But this is a tricky area, because arn't those potential people too? Isn't that playing god? I guess so. But we have to remember, we have the ability to protect OR destroy our planet. We are a fragile race, sometimes we need to make tough decisions to protect ourselves AND the Earth. Would we really want our childrent to inhabit a drought and famine plagued, overmined world simply because we want some legacy? Thats not much of a legacy to me.

  9. because most people live in the moment

and cant  change because of "something that might or might not happen in the future"....

usually there are alot of other forces that redress the balance of nature and mostly always out of the control of "human"

  10. With that kind of thinking, serial killers would be rewarded rather than punished for "trying to help even out the population."

  11. We're vain cause we procreate? No we're LIVING like every specie on this planet does, and procreation is part of LIVING.  Life will take its course regardless, things change, people since the beginning of time have probably professed some need to 'change' or realize we're going into oblivion but we continue to press on whatever it is we do and adapt to the change whether it be good or bad.

Besides war, famine, really bad weather, murderous b******s, and disease still continues to knock off alot of people, so as long as that exists overpopulation is something your great great great grandsons will have to worry about. You'll probably be dead before you have to witness it.
