  1. Haha sweetie 5'3 isn't too short,don't worry.

Well, being a flight attendant has always looked fun to me, but i have to admit i've always been hesitant of flying after 9/11. But then it's like, there's really no other safer way for transportation nowadays.

  2. whoever told you there's a shortage of flight attendants in America was lying to you.

  3. For what it's worth, 5'3" is not "very short."  The average height of women in the U.S. and Europe is 5'4". So becoming a flight attendant is not a problem at your height.

  4. In many countries especially Asia, a flight attendant is a highly respected position.  The flight attendants are hand selected and go through a rigorous training program.  I hear that on Singapore Airlines a flight attendant goes through 4 months of training and that only 10% of those who apply are accepted.

In America, flight attendants do not receive the respect they do in other countries.  Also the hours can be long and the passengers can be rude and demanding.  My friend was a pilot for a large regional airline and he said that in one day he could be flying 6 segments so as soon as he landed, he would have to run to the next plane to fly it to another destination.  So for the flight attendant, they may have days where the flights are short and they have to be constantly serving passengers.

If you are 5'3" you can be a flight attendant.  You are not too short.  You will have to be able to lift luggage to place in the overhead bins.  Just know that as a flight attendant in the U.S., you are scheduled by seniority.  Therefore if you have worked with the airline a long time, you can pick what destination you want to fly to as well as when you want to fly.  Those who have little seniority get whatever routes people don't want.  Therefore you may be flying to a city that doesn't have much excitement or you may be flying the first flight of the day which can be around 6:00 am meaning you will probably have to wake up at 4:00 am.  You may also be scheduled to fly the last flight out and arrive at the destination late at night.  Many people become flight attendants hoping to travel to different places.  However that is a benefit of being a flight attendant.  Your job is to serve passengers who may or may not be appreciative of your hard work.  Many are upset with the airlines over high ticket prices, flight delays, crowded flights, lost luggage so sometimes they are not pleasant towards airline employees.

  5. Granted, the days of TWA, PanAm, and Braniff are gone; at least in the United States. In the 60's and earlier people used to get on planes dressed up, stewardesses were nice lookin' in their skirts and those hats they wore, etc..

I was over at New Orleans' airport and saw this woman dragging a suitcase wearing black sweatpants with flip-flops on that looked like she just got out of bed. I admit I don't wear a suit or anything, but it is depressing. People mainly get drunk in the parking lot before the flight so they don't have to pay for alcohol. Believe me, you are fully qualified to be a flight attendant.

  6. 1- Low pay

    2- Long hours

3- No job security "last hired/first fired"

    4- Dealing with jerks

The "traveling around the world" lure is only for a few, tenured flight attendants on international flights.  The VAST majority fly feeder and domestic routes.

    I think that explains it.
