Why don't people understand Nuclear power is the way to go for our energy needs?

I suppose people do not realize that we have at least 10( to be conservative) nuclear submarines always patroling our oceans 24 house a day, 365 days a year, year in and year out. What has been the problem with that?

  1. Well basically when traveling in the ocean the only thing your going to hurt is fish if there is an accident and there are pretty much no other Practical sources of power traveling the ocean. Lets see, Solar Power no, Coal Power no, Gasoline? God no. But on land it is too dangerous when we are threatened by idiots with bombs and also before even considering Nuclear Power we must know that there is a safe way to store the Radioactive waste which will have no flaws and no using our mountains to store it like Yucca Mountain, Nevada!!!!!!!!

  2. Honestly, it's because most people are scared of what they don't understand. It's a fairly clean energy source, and while the disposal of waste is more difficult, it can be handled. There are a number of sites around the world that are virtually uninhabited that could be utilized for additional capacity.

  3. It has some adverse effects if we are careless and also costly than other sources and is in the developing stage

  4. because of the "cold war', nuclear has always been a bad thing,

whats it been?, like 30 years since our last nuclear power staion?

  5. Like the Hindenburg, three mile island and Chernobyl just stand out. If we make a new generation of nuk's with graphite casings they still will not be happy and only think of bad.

  6. Three Mile Island.  Chernobyl.  That's part of the problem.

The other part is that muclear power is expensive to produce.

Don't get me wrong-I'm not opposed to nuclear power as such.  But its a long way from obvious that "that's the way to go."

  7. Dissagree

If the government invested as much money into renewables as they spend on insuring nuclear plants we would be alot closer to developing better renewable tech.

Building a new plant takes around 20 years so it will not help with power shortages or environmental issues

Obviously you trust George Bush enough to take care of the waste.

  8. There are continuing concerns about radiation, either from leakage or from spent fuel.

  9. The problem is not with that, it's the idiot libtards and enviro-freaks squawking about imagined horrors of "what if". Nuclear power plants were the war to go until the freaks started whining about radiation. Then nuclear power plants were stopped from being built and others shut down. NOW, the same idiots WANT nuclear power plants to reduce our something something something whatever. The world would be a lot better off if we just started ignoring the idiots and their paranoid delusions (like 'global warming??) like people used to do. Nobody ever used to listen to or appease their egos with any attention at all. Give me a break!! Nuclear will never power a car, neither should hydrogen.

  10. It is clearly a way out of our energy problems

  11. where do we put the spent red hot waste ? it will be much more than a sub has.
