Why don't premier racehorses race more than one season?

They run for the triple crown, but you never hear of a winning horse run again the next year in the same races. Why not?

Actually, the "premier" horses, as you call them, normally start racing when they are two years old. They race in the Triple Crown races when they are three. The reason that most of them are retired after their 3yo campaign is because they are worth so much as a stallion. So it pretty much comes down to money.

Because the Triple Crown races are open to ONLY three year old throughbreds.

Some of the good horses are racing in the 4 year old season. Look at Curlin, Lava Man, tiago and others.

The Breeder's Classic will be a good one this year.

basically coz, a horse can be worth more to an owner at stud than on the track,

EXAMPLE..... if you have a stallion that has won grade 1 races you could charge upwards of $30,000 for a service, meaning every mare that he serves is $30,000 in your pocket and a good stallion can serve up to 400 mares a season, which equates to a lot of cash!

in comparason  if you continue to race a horse he has a higher risk of breaking down and consequently being put to sleep, were he cant make the owner a dollar!

Their are plenty of premier racehorses that race more than 1 season. The Triple Crown races are strictly for 3 year olds. And not alway do the best 3 year olds retire before their 4 year old season. Just look at Curlin : Champ 3YO and Horse of the Year of 2007. Still racing as of today at 4 years old and is undefeated in 3 starts.

Sorry But they do run more then once in a season

Who told you this ??

Some will race when the right race is written for them or fits them

It all depends on the horse and trainer and owner,,

They might race once before a bigger race Just to prep him

So many DO race more then one season ,,
