Why don't restaurants pay their waiters/waitresses properly so tipping isn't expected?

  1. Because they'd just pass on the price to the consumer anyway.  All the prices on the menu would get inflated, so it'd work to the be the same anyway.  At least this way, if you order take out, the price is lower.


  2. I'm a waitress and we live off the tips we recieve. The tips are our paycheck. I've waitressed for over 15 yrs. The highest I've been paid by the employee is $3.00. So until they up the minimum waitress wage, which is at 2.15, we have to live off of the tips. Even if it is a buffet restaurant.

  3. Most rest. are mim wage and the tips are what most wait/watre.  live on.  That is the way it is here. Union scale is higherm but tips are a tax able income here in Vegas too. Don't know much about other countries or their ways or wages...

  4. I think the better question is why u wouldn't want to tip a waiter/waitress.........?
