It is a giant bus. If a toyota does hit it; what will happen?

The bus should be going really slow and is the biggest yellowist thing on the road. People see them...you can't miss them.

  2. i always wanted to know that answer..

  4. That's a great question! School Buses were not meant to be driven fast but the drivers are careless nowadays! They should have seat belts for every buses since there has been so many Bus Accidents!

  5. Seat Belts Are A Great Concept ,But What IF You Have 60 Or More Kids On A Bus And It Wrecks Or Catches On Fire Who Is Going To Get The Kids Out Of The Seat Belts.Compartmentalization Is What Buses Have Now The Seats Have To Meet Strict Federal Standards. FMVSS 222 Pertains To Seat What Type Of Foam How Far Apart How Slow They Burn How There Mounted.Look This Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Up And Know School Buses Are The Safest Form Of Transportation  In The World.8.8 Billion Students Travel Annually Every Day 440,000 School Buses Transport More Than 24 Million Students To And From School. That's The Equivalent Of The Population Of Florida,Massachusetts And Oregon Riding On A Bus Twice Every Day.

  6. Compartmentalization, a concept seen frequently on commercial airplanes, involves seating passengers in rows of padded seats with cushioned backs.

The belief is that during frontal or rear impact, the most common types of wrecks involving school buses, passengers would either be pushed back into their seats or thrown forward into the padded backs of the row ahead.

The use of seat belts might require stiffer seats, which would negate the theory of compartmentalization.

It is also feared that some students would receive internal injuries from seat belts through a process called submarining, the tendency for a body to slide downwards during impact.

Seat belts on school buses may also hamper rescue or evacuation efforts, as adults or older students may have to spend precious minutes unbuckling young or disoriented passengers.

Unruly students could also use the heavy buckles as makeshift weapons, creating even more of a safety hazard.

There is also the argument that seat belts would only protect passengers of school buses during unusual events such as roll-overs or flips, not other possible accidents such as fires or submersion.

Considering the expense of retrofitting current school buses or replacing entire fleets with approved seat belt systems, the benefits of seat belt use do not currently outweigh the liabilities.
