  1. It's the same reason why some kids don't like to play with certain toys. They just don't interest them.

  2. Prey drive = chase instinct. Giant breed dogs weren't bred to run/chase therefore balls have no real appeal. There are exceptions to every rule. I have a Mastiff with a high prey drive and she loves to play with balls.

  3. some dogs are eather dumb or just too lazy. My dogs is kind of that way and all i have to do to get him fetch is.. get him really pumped up then show the ball to his face and then usually he'll go for it. but like i said some dogs are lazy so sometimes he just walks away!

    good luck!

    hope this helps =)

  4. coz some aint g*y

  5. Most of the giant breeds I've worked with don't like to move around fast, and don't like to lower their head to the ground.  You aren't going to see them in most frisbee competitions, and even when they eat or drink they seem to prefer those lifted bowls (besides the benefits of possible decrease of bloat... they just seem to like them.)   I know a mastiff who refused to sit once he was full grown.  It's just a long way from the ground to where they are.  :P

Add into that a difficulty in sight (most giant breeds are not known for their sight abilities... terriers have evolved eyes that help them to see something small and darting, mastiffs don't.)  They may never see a ball when it's the size most people have.

However, give them the RIGHT size of ball, like a soccer ball or larger, and I've never seen one that didn't like it.
