Question:

Why don't the AFL leave the rules alone?

I watched 1967 Grand Final on 7 today. 40 years ago, and look at the game today. The comparison is ugly. In those days it was a man on man competition, it was a game of many more skills, brilliant marking, long torpedo punts. and longer drop kicks, and sharp stab passes. Not the crowded schoolyard packs and scrimmages of today. It's time to tighten up on what we call "handball" but is in reality throwing the ball. Time to restrict the passage of players all over the ground. The huge packs are laughable. Today the game is like tennis, one dimensionable. Same ol' same ol'.

  1. because andrew demetriou is a dud

  2. and what do your examples have anything to do with rules.

I think that you would find that the game is also a lot faster, the handballs are going further and there the game is more safer compared with back in those days.

everything changes...look, the posts are taller, the balls are better quality,   there are more umpires on the field!

its still the most unique game on earth (in my opinion), and it always will be.

trust me, the game will be a whole lot different again when we are celebrating 200 years of aussie rules!

  3. I love the game how it is today, but yes agree some things have gone to far!

  4. I agree with you. I watched Richmond beat Geelong in todays flashback on Channel 7. It was great to watch the great players (Royce Hart etc) taking screamers. Much of what you said I thought of while I was watching Melb play Richmond today. In one passage of play there was at least 20 scambled handpasses in amongst a pack of players from both sides. It was so scrambly & crowded no-one could clear the ball. Just like a rugby scrum.

Also in the flashback it showed the scores of the reserves grand final. Fitzroy def. Footscray. How things have changed, in more ways than one!

  5. **I wish they would leave the rules alone but they are trying to 'improve' the game and as much as I love AFL, it's becoming more and more like soccer.  It's as though pretty soon players won't even be able to have contact.

You only need to look back around five or six seasons and things that would only get a free kick paid these days get reports.**

  6. Well they actually are in power and they're s******g up the game, I would love to shoot Demetriou in the head coz as long as he's the Ceo he's just gonna fark up the game even more.

  7. cos they wanna feel like they are in power all the time. they aint.
