Why don't the Americans who resent 'foreigners' being here simply use the USA answers only filter option?

Putting aside the irony given the Olympics is actually an international competition any American user of YA could easily avoid seeing questions from other nationalities.

Unfortunately we 'foreigners' don't have the luxury of the option to filter out other nationalities so we are stuck with ALL ENGLISH answers.

Yahoo may be an American company, but for example, if you're Australian and you want our official Olympics news, you have no choice but to use Yahoo7.com.au.  We also have no choice but to use the Yahoo7 answers, which is linked to the international Yahoo answers service.  Yahoo isn't really just a US company anymore, it's a multinational one.  The internet is a global phenomenon, get used to it!

I don't resent "foreigners" at all.  I didn't even know there was an option to filter out.   Yahoo is an American company so they can do what they want, and they choose to set it up as is.  If you don't like it set up your own site in your own language and filter out what you want.  You have a choice.

LOL! I am one American who totally agrees with you. I, for one, am happy to have you. That said, I've run into some Brits who complain about us being here, too. I am not convinced this is such an "American" thing. Regardless, if people are unhappy with how this place is set up, I suggest they just go somewhere else. Y!A is what it is.

Double LOL! The answers here are hilarious. Yahoo is an American company!? What the heck does that have anything to do with anything? Americans drive Hondas, play Sony Playstation, and let their companies export labor to India and Mexico while their government borrow billions of dollars from China. Who owns Yahoo! is totally irrelevant to who hangs out here. Otherwise there would be no Yahoo! France, Yahoo! United Kingdom, and Yahoo! Australia. What a dumb response.

it's because yahoo is an american company. but i sort of agree with you, if yahoo is going to allow other countries to access the site, all countries should be able to filter just like we can. don't worry, most of americans are not "against foreigners"

haha, i didn't even realize that was an option, i just hate when people start pointing fingers and saying things for no reason just to stir the pot, but it's always fun to jump in and see those questions/answers

The solution for now is to increase your discrimination "muscles" and surround yourself with some American contacts who can dissipate some of the tribalism for you. :)

At least Americans have the courtesy to make this forum international for all foreigners.

I don't avoid questions from other nationalities because I myself have multi-nationalities and it would be ignorant for anyone to do so.

BTW- The Americans don't resent foreigners, they resent foreigners who have nothing better to do but bash our country!

The really xenophobic ones tend to be young, but unfortunately this is not always the case.
