Question:

Why don't the Packers just man up and let Favre go?

It's already clear that the Packers GM royally screwed this up.

Lots of things have happened to make the Favre/Packers relationship unrepairable.

So, why don't the Packers just man up and let Favre continue his career elsewhere?

I understand them not wanting him to go to a division rival. But again, didn't the Packers put themselves in this position?

Also, who's to say that going to Chicago or Minnesota will guarantee that Favre will kick their tails?

Thoughts?

  1. i agree that they should let Favre go, and from the looks of it, he will be traded. But you cannot put all of the blame on the Packers. Both Favre and Packers have lied. Favre denied all of the rumors about him coming back and the Packers really didn't have a plan for Favre. So both will reap what they saw.

In the end, Packers needs to trade Favre so people can move on. they better do this now because their first pregame is next monday.

  2. Favre and Thompson have done a very nice job of making this whole thing a media circus for months - it's the only thing ESPN will talk about. I'm not sure why the Packers haven't let him go yet, if they've said that Rodgers is their # 1 guy. It could be more of the same for a while, which is not good news, because ESPN will tell us over and over about this like they have for months on end.

  3. Farve put the packers in this position when he officially retired and decided to come back months later.  I would never let him go without getting something in return, like a first round pick.

  4. It's called greed. The NFL is filled with it. Best advice is to get used to it. Even players like Favre who have notoriously been the working class athletes have their moments of greed. In my opinion if I was commisioner of the NFL I would step in and negate his contract with Green Bay and let him be a free agent and someone could pick him up if they wanted him. I get tired of all the bickering amongst owners and players. Just play the dang game. They get paid millions of dollars to do something people love to do for free.

  5. Favre's not going no where Packer's offer him money and he did not take it he will be playing again for the packer's this year

  6. Why? Because they are cowards.

They say they want to "protect his legacy", don't make me laugh!

They want to move on with Rodgers but they are afraid of losing their jobs if Bret outplays Rodgers somewhere else.

  7. There wouldn't  be a guarantee.....there never is in football.  but the vikings are loaded and ready to go......especially with Peterson......all they need is a QB like Favre.   Actuallly I think it would be good for the Vikings their current QB Jackson is still really young....It would be good for him to maybe sit back behind a veteran like Favre for a year or two and then go do his thing......As odd as it would be to  see Favre  as a packer right now Im kind of leaning toward wanting him to be a viking ...

  8. First of all, Bret Favre is a Drama Queen (see Rick Reilly's video) and the Packers are enjoying all the free publicity.  Seconly, they will eventually trade him to another team and hopefully receive some decent players in return.

  9. They don't want to just release him. They want someone for him and I would too. But personally I think Favre is really dumb because the Packers offered him 25 million dollars just for him to stay retired and to leave the organization alone. The Packers didn't really put themselves in this position because they went to him twice after he retired and asked him if he wanted to come back and if he did they would give him the starting position and both times he said no I'm going to stay retired, and now he comes back and just expects it.

  10. The Packers have screwed this all up. They made it clear to him that they don't want him. The Packers need to release him and let him choose where he wants to play. If Aaron Roagers is as good as they think he is, it shouldn't matter if he gets traded to their rival.

  11. This year is going to be a media nightmare for the Packers and their fans.  Unfortunately, they should have allowed Favre to come back with his first request.  Now the whole situation is just a circus.

I've always liked Favre and the Packers but I'm really tired of it now.
