Why don't the USA athletes sing the National Anthem when they take the gold medal?

I know I haven't seen "every" single gold medal ceremony, but from the ones I have seen the other countries are always singing their national anthem, but I have yet to see a single American (USA) sing along with their national anthem. Why?

  1. i dont sing in public, esp on national tv...and i'd probably be sobbing like a baby if i just won gold.

  2. Nastia Liukin is freakin hot!!!! She sang the anthem last night.

  3. Some do but it is hard because they are choking up because of the emotion.

  4. Because most Americans know the "Brady Bunch" theme song better than their anthem.

  5. I've seen several sing along, in fact natsia liukin did that just last night.  i also saw mariel zagunis do the same when she won the gold in fencing.

  6. Many do, many don't. It's their personal preference. I, personally think some are probably processing the immensity of the moment.

  7. Maybe they don't know the words to it, or they're just in awe of the medal.

  8. I've seen some of them sing (I can't remember which swimmer, but one of them sang it entirely), but I think it's more because they're too overwhelmed to do anything other than watching the crowd and the flags. Nastia Liukin sang during some parts yesterday, but she practically sobbing throughout the whole ceremony, so she was stopping often during the anthem.

Just my take on it, I'm not an athlete or anything, it's just what I saw! :)

  9. sometimes they do

  10. Actually, I've noticed quite the opposite.

  11. for the ones i have seen they were singing..... natsia sang last night after she won the womens gymnastics all-around gold.
