  1. She didn't. Her grandfather did. It was because of the anti-German sentiment in England.

  2. they are so famous

  3. Is this a joke? or do u really want 2 know??

  4. The British weren't too fond of being reminded they had German kings and queens.  Windsor is a nice English sounding name, don't you know.

  5. World War One broke out in 1914 and was in full fury in 1917. In protest, King George V renounced all the German titles belonging to him and his family and adopted the name of his castle, Windsor.

  6. Would you want everyone to know you were named after a English castle? The Saxe-Coburg-Gotha name came with Prince Albert and it went out during WWI with the anti German feeling in England. Surnames were not common until the middle ages and the really rich and titled were one of the last to get a surname. After all they did not need to be known as John's son or Free man. They were rich and did not need to be identified as everyone knew them

  7. You should know who she is regardless of a last name.  It's like "Cher" or "Madonna"  they don't have to use their last names to know who you are talking about!

  8. If the British Princes and Princesses decended from Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were to use their real last names, it would be Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg... Prince Philip is decended from the Greek Royal Family, which is a branch of the Danish Royal Family.
