Why don't the truckers go on strike to lower the gas prices?

They (truckrers) have to pay such high gas prices and then everything would come to a stop. If the men and women that do work would park their trucks this country would come to a quick halt.

they have families to support. They like to eat every day. the kids need clothes., etc.

I am a trucker, we cant get every body together to have a shut down, all the big companys like jb hunt, schnieder, swift, etc would not shut down either, they fuel at places where they get large discounts so they are not paying pump price, in general you could not get two truck drivers to stick together on any thing long enough to order a pizza let alone have a strike

The word strike indicates a united action with a common front (such as union) with an appointed spokesperson and list of demands presented to another organization,  such as corporate interest.        This does not exist in the trucking industry.

A work stoppage as you suggest would mean the trucks aren't moving,  which means no income to the drivers or truck owners.   And yes,  everything would come to a stop,  even the commuters who couldn't  get gas,    grocery stores would run out of product,   factories would run out of raw materials and lay off employees,   and America would stop.     And everyone would blame the truckers for their misery and problems,   not join them to get lower prices.    So the industry gets bad press and no income.   Gee,  thanks!

Better,  prohibit the trading of fuel on the futures markets,  which some believe is bidding the prices up for the sake of profits.      Remove  restrictions on oil exploration and processing to speed new domestic product to market.    (Did you know no new refineries have been built in the United States for over 30 years?)     Teach conservation and assist conservation measures,  such as more efficient mass transportation and fuel efficiency  measures.    

And most of all,  remember that the high fuel prices are not just the problem for truckers.   They affect you too,  in the cost of everything you purchase.    Finding 10 items in your home that weren't transported on a truck at some time would be difficult,  especially if you don't count the cat or kids.

That is a very good question, I certainly worked back in the 70's. As for the answer that they have family's to support, I do understand that. However if this keeps up, they won't be able to support them any way. I will say this. It's not just the truckers that need to do something, It's all Americans. A couple months ago someone tried to set up a nationwide protest against gas prices. They asked that for one certain day, everyone avoided buying gas. I did, but when I went past my gas station, It was packed. We all need to stand together. We need to stop buying gas for a short period, Truckers, Automobile, Motorcycle . Take a stand. I'm not saying that the oil companies shouldn't make a profit, but In the last year, oil companies have enjoyed record profits, while we starve. Enough is enough.

My cousin a trucker he cant afford to go on strike high fuel costs are killing him for sure but rest assured its going to get passed on to the consumer.........A.K.A......Higher prices for anything hauled on a semi-truck

Some truckers did do a short strike to prove a point.

The thing is that there are many truckers who drive for companies and the companies provide the truck and the fuel. My boyfriend works for such a company.

If owner/operators go on strike these companies will gladly take up the slack at their own price and drive prices for other consumer products up even more.

Most owner/operators can't afford not to work. No one is going to pay their bills for them. They are stuck in a no win situation.

why dont they, and you and me and everyone else. problem is they will give up time and money to do that whilst a load of numpties will go out there and panick buy the fuel. when they did one in the uk a couple of years ago, not enough people got involved with the actual protest, petrol stations put the price of the fuel up and people went out filling there tanks whilst they could and a lot of people just took it back to sit it on there front and not use it...the government sat back laughing...those people ruined all the hard work of the people who did go out there...
