Just wondering as we get a few deliveries to ROI and occasionally they can't find the address and without a postcode it's practicially impossible to find. So why don't they have them ?

  1. This is the UK site, try elsewhere.

  2. The short answer is because at one point it wasn't necessary

You forgot the mention the problem with the smaller towns & villages where there are no numbers on the houses

  3. Outside of Dublin no postcodes exist for the rest of ROI. The reason for this is that the AN post has stated that the addressing system and sorting technology precludes the need for them for postal delivery. Arguments have been made that the emergency services would benefit from the introduction of postal codes however and the governement have recognised that there is a need also. Strong rumour has it that postal codes will be introduced in 2009 and will be in the format of a six character alphanumeric e.g Galway post code could look something like GAL 123.

    Hope this helps?
