Why don't they kill the inmates that serve life?

Cuase there taking up space, air, and food. There ganna die in there cell anyways we might aswell save us some food and ship it to africa :/

u have a good point. but its bcuz they dont think its fair 2 kill them (constitution). u might as well just send them 2 texas if u want them dead.

Because they are too PC. They want to be more humane than that. Most career criminals who have taken a life should indeed have their life taken as well. An eye for an eye...

The death penalty often falls under "cruel and unusual punishment" in relative terms. The gas chamber may be thought of as a humane method of capital punishment for murder, but it is considered excessive for a serial thief, because a punishment that is disproportionate to the crime is cruel and unusual.

There are also states that do not have a death penalty.

Personally, I used to wonder if we put the prisoners in Ethiopia and the Ethiopians in the prisons if both would be better served. The Ethiopians would get shelther, clothing, food, cable TV - and of course I wouldn't lock them up - the prisons would be like government-run apartmetn buildings. The prisoners would see the disaster of living by their own rules.

That was idealistic, I know - you can't take an agrarian society and put them in a jail building, and the prisoners would probably create some new sort of state like the Tripoli pirates did.

Either way, they should be working off their sentences. Put them to work doing reconstruction in New Orleans, etc.

I've often thought about this myself... I mean, why would we, the taxpayers, pay to house, clothe, feed and provide medical care for the next 50 years to someone serving 2 or 3 life sentences???

Just think of it as the government don't want these criminals to let them go THAT easily.
