I'm a huge Burton fan and I want to understand soemthing. How can poeple notice Jr. all the time and not notice Burton, a veteran to the sport. Of course, Jeff's not as good as he used to be but he's still drivn better than jr. I never could understand it even the media gives more attention to jr. Its like they do a field view and all they say is "And there's Jeff Burton, who is currently third in the points standing" and then get to jr and say "And there's jr., making his way into eleventh position and your can hear jr. nation going wild. i love to see this guy race, he brings the game every time". Now why can't they do that for Jeff??? He's awesome and has already held the 1st position in the points standings this. Not now though. But has Jr? I think not. Why can't people give credit where credit is due?

  1. It gets old. And all the new fans coming into the sport notice that the cameras follow Jr. around like Danica Patrick, so they think he's the best, and cheer for him. At least this season they seem to be focusing more on Kyle Busch, though. Obviously the coverage is still not very fair, but Kyle has won 7 races. People will probably say something like, "Well Jr. is second in the points so he deserves this coverage." But what about all those other years when he was missing the chase, finishing around 15th or 20th in points, and still got the most coverage? It's been like that since the day his dad passed away, and all that coverage gives Jr. a lot more fans. As for Jeff Burton, he deserves a lot of credit. He's very consistent, but they almost never cover him. I think in part it's due to his sponsor being AT&T in the Sprint Cup. Since these companies are rivals, and AT&T has to get out of the sport, they try not to cover Burton as much.

  2. I love Jeff Burton.  He's definately one of my favorites and I feel the same way.  He doesn't get enough love.

  3. Good ? since he is like 3 or 4th in points too! Some guys just seem to never get any press. Not all guys want to be in the lime light either. Jeff is a very gracious driver and also a private one.

  4. they notice...they don`t care....it`s media bias....ratings,supply & demand....if jr gets bit by a mosquito,it`s news....

  5. Jeff IS awesome.  And it isn't too shabby that he sets 3rd in points.

Jeff didn't lose his dad in a crash while racing.  Jr. did.  Everyone just wants to see an Earnhardt on the track.  When they scream and yell and cheer for Jr.  It's Sr. they are cheering for.

  6. People actually giving credit when credit is due? Heck that is almost like having a relaxing trip on an airplane these days.  I think a lot of reasons why Burton (one of my favorite drivers) is passed over a lot is because he does not win, wine or cause drama.  However he has been pretty steady, doing well each week and finishing well.  I guess if you are not winning or causing drama then they do not talk about you.  It does not make sense I know and really ticks me off because he sure does deserve a lot of credit.

Glad someone else has taken notice then he does not get much credit when it is LONG overdue to him.

  7. Jeff doesn't have a huge fan base and his sponsor is out of favor, so he doesn't get the coverage he deserves.

Also, I think a whole lot of it is that he's not considered "young." I personally don't think somebody in their 40s is old at all (I'm 41 :), but you know how the world is. Everybody wants the next new thing, like Joey Logano.

Jeff isn't flashy, isn't in the middle of some drama every week, and does a good consistent job. Hard work and respectability doesn't make good copy.

As for Junior...nothing against him personally, but he would never have gotten this popular if it wasn't for his dad. He's a pretty charismatic guy from what I understand and would probably have a large fan base anyway, but nothing compared to what he has now as Sr.'s son.

  8. Burton gets all the attention he needs. He's a good family man and doesn't want the spotlight.  He models himself after Mark Martin. He said Mark was his hero when I saw him speak in Snap-On hospitallity in Martinsville, Oct. 22, 2006. I can see why some ppl got their feathers ruffled, your question is stated kind of controversially, but I get what you mean. The media gives the other guys the attention because thats what sells and its their job to sell.

  9. They are always talking about the more "popular" drivers...in other words..the driver's that are making their team owners a small fortune from the selling of soveniers.  Dale, Jr. .....Jeff Gordon...Tony Stewart...it doesn't matter how good or BAD these drivers are doing in a race...they are always mentioned.  And although Jeff Burton is one of the good ol' boys, the media won't notice him unless it almost has to!

  10. I have disagreed with you in the past, but i agree with you now...the media will always follow Junior, it makes me sick, they will always compare him to his daddy! It dont matter,as much as Junior dont drive well, he will always be the man...Jeff Burton is good and fair and he should get the credit definitley deserves!!

Junior aint at all that good, and ppl just need to accept it!!

  11. First of all I adore Jeff Burton.  He is a stand up guy with loads of talent.  They do interview him a lot, everyone likes Jeff.   He even Co-Hosts Track side live on Speed quite often, if you watch you will see him and often. He's a great guy.

Secondly, you want to know why Junior gets so much attention?  People like you that can't stop talking about him.  Last week Junior finished 16th the announcers didn't talk about him much at all.  Y/A on the other hand can't get enough he is still the #1 topic in here.  It's so funny to me.  Why do you care who Junior's fans are or how many of us cheer for him?  You have a favorite driver and you cheer for him, I don't see anyone putting YOU down because of it. Oh and the crazy idea that Junior is only where he is today because of his dad is just ludicriss.  Senior is dead (RIP) and Junior is in 2nd place.  How did his dad possibly pull that off?  That would be quite a trick.

    >>Alright, sorry about that.  You used Junior's name often and he gets bashed 100 times every day in here so it's just automatic for me to defend him.

  12. What do you expect, the media loves Dale Jr. only because of who his daddy is. Do you think he would get as much attention if he was not related to Dale Sr? Of course not!

He would be over looked like so many who are so so drivers

like Dave Blaney or JJ Yeley. (remember, Dale Jr. is a so so

    driver).

  13. People notice Jr because of his father. Whether or not you agree he deserves the attention Earnhardt is a legendary name in NASCAR and he will always have fans if whether or not he is 2nd in the points (like this season) or last in the points. Also, Jr used to have a big personality and was a contrast to the suit and tie boys like Jeff Gordon which fans liked.

Burton may not have the huge fan following Jr has but he does have the respect in the garage. I should add that Burton is the only one who is in this situation. Mark Martin and Matt Kenseth are both great drivers who have lower profiles.

  14. What has JR done for NASCAR??? But what has NASCAR done for JR..???

I could not agree anymore about JB,. I am not sure what track it was, (maybe Vegas) and Im pretty sure it was the NNS race last yr. Burton and Busch were duking it out the last few laps... Coming to the checker flag, Those two where side my side, got into each other, Kyle went side ways and took second while Burton took first...

Burton went up to Kyle offerd an appoligy (spelling) for spinning him out.. Kyle was all smiles and said "Congrates.. and great race...

How many other drivers whould have done that????

JB desirves more coverage from the folks in the media

  15. you must not watch enough post or pre race

    they always talk to burton

he in my mind is the most smartest race driver there is

if they want some thing hard put in lamens terms they go straight to jeff he can explain anything on a race car to the extent a 3 year old could understand

star watching all the race not just the race

  16. I agree, I like JB very much but as far as Jr.'s deal, it's all about his dad.

  17. you are right a lot of drivers take a back seat so to speak when it comes to JR, for whatever reason(and that can be argued all day long) I don't relly care for the one sided commentary but I have learned to myte the tv and watch what happens with my fave driver and the rest that are not as mych talked about
