  2. I mostly agree with KT.... at least in Milan you have better choices than most other places in Italy.

    If McDonald's has made it in Italy why shouldn't Wagamama?

Arrrgghh!!  Wagamama's sounds great right now, and every day, my lunch choices are either a plate of pasta or a panino.. it's depressing!  But to answer your question, I expect it's a combination of political pressure, industry protection, and the traditional culture which prefers to keep all things "Italian".  I did some work with Haagen-Dazs and they spent at least 4 years trying to open up branches in Italy, and it just never happened because of the politics and the unwritten rules of the legal system.
