Why don't videos show up on my computer anymore?

For some reason, whenever I go to YouTube, or any other site with videos, the videos don't come up. The page is done loading, but the video doesn't show. The sound doesn't even play on it either. Same with if I'm searching for music and Real Player (or something) comes up, it doesn't play. I think it's because I need to install JavaScript. But it worked before I came to Thailand. The problem is I can't install JavaScript because the computer doesn't install anything anymore either, the pop-up comes up but it never installs or starts downloading...what's wrong, and how can I watch videos again? I've been using wireless internet...if it matters.

  1. maybe you need to install flash player

  2. Maybe you downloaded a program on your computer that is conflicting with something.  You could do a system restore to a date that was previous to the problem if you have Windows.  Like the person before me said, it's something to do with the codecs on your computer.  Something must have happened there.

Just a few weeks ago I had a similar problem - exactly the same really.  The reason I had the problem was that a friend re-installed my operating system (Windows Xp) on my computer.  But he had never done it before and did not realize that these codecs needed to be installed separately.   If you don't have the codecs you won't be able to watch video and you won't be able to listen to music or hear audio.  So, I am pretty sure that's the problem.

The solution for me was to take my computer down to my local computer repair shop (not an overpriced national chain) and they installed those codecs for me in half an hour for $30.  I went home happy and my computer is now too.

Additionally, here is a link for the codecs to Window Media Player 7.1 or later.  I have no idea what yours might be.  But if you feel up to the challenge of doing this yourself - you can check it out.  I have no idea how many or which ones you need.  I think it depends upon your version of windows.  Consulting a professional would be a good idea.
