Why don't we have any anti-pimping laws?

"Of the 100,000 prostitution-related arrests each year, the great majority of them are of women and girls; pimps and johns are much less likely to be arrested. "

"Pimps crush runaway girls with a mix of violence and affection, degradation and gifts, and then require absolute obedience to a rigid code: the girl cannot look the pimp in the eye, call him by his name, or keep any cash.

Every evening she must earn a quota of money before she can sleep. She may be required to tattoo the pimp’s name on her thigh."

Why don't we have anti-pimping laws? Wouldn't it make sense to go after those "in power"?

  1. I suspect they are harder to find, since they don't have to put themselves out in plain view, like prostitutes have to in order to find johns.

Some European countries have had great success prosecuting ONLY pimps, madams and johns, and just offering social services (drug programs, health care, job training) to the prostitutes themselves.

It's had good success. Every country should emulate it.

  2. Cause prostitution is the oldest profession in the world!!

  3. They should, but when they ask prositutes to give them up they don't because they fear for their lives. Or they are the prostitutes husband,

  4. Uh, we do.  Prostitution is illegal almost everywhere.

  5. hmmm we have laws to protect prostitute's rights but only in countries where prostitution is legal obviously.

Pimps are scum of the earth and some sort of legislation should be passed against them. I don't think you can "outlaw" them but you could inflict severe penalties of any accused of intimidating their employees

edit: oh tru LGD, that at least solves our problem eh. (Palmy boy)

  6. I think pimps will become a thing of the past with the power of the Internet, women can sell themselves online and arrange meetings without the need for a pimp. I'm not kidding I have seen the website and you wouldn't believe it, I would never go with a prostitute BTW my friend just showed the site to me.

  7. We do... they are just harder to catch because they are less likely to be on the street and approaching strangers. And it can be harder to prove. But the laws are there.

I think more effort ought to be put into prosecuting the customers, though.

  8. We do in New Zealand. Prostitution is legal, pimping is not.

  9. We have plenty of laws on the books in the US that aren't enforced-this is one one of many that have to do with prostitution that are ignored. It's sexist-if prostitution is illegal then when they arrest prostitutes they should arrest pimps and johns. In the past the US has focused on prostitute stings; now there is a bit more direction focused on johns; but there rarely has been much attention in the US focused on pimps.

Prostitution and those that benefit from it (pimps and johns) are finally getting attention again because those working against sexual slavery (of men/women and children) have realized that the US has a serious sexual slavery problem as well that got lost in the child p**n and internet p**n industry issues. All this messy sexual stuff gets pushed aside in the US since we're a hypocritical puritan based society that likes its s**t but doesn't want to deal with the effects of it unless someone is running for election and makes it an issue.

I hate prostitution but if men and women feel they have no choice but to sell their sexual parts to others-then I'd like to see it legalized in the US so they are not any more exploited than they already are-for those that feel they have no other way to make money to survive.

  10. We do in Australia- It is actually a more serious crime than prostitution.

  11. Pimping is against the law.  They shoud make the penalties stiffer.  That might begin to change things.

"Since 2003, 308 pimps and hookers have been convicted in state and federal courts of forcing youngsters into prostitution, and 433 child victims have been rescued, Mueller said.

The cities targeted in this week’s sting are: Atlanta; Boston; Dallas; Detroit; Houston; Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Miami; Montgomery County, Md.; Oakland, Calif.; Phoenix; Reno, Nev.; Sacramento, Calif.; Tampa; Toledo, Ohio and Washington."

Yes, prosecuting the johns would be VERY effective.  But, the Johns and the police might be one in the same

  12. Well if women had been using their *equality* none of this would ever be an issue.

      - We did decide women and men are equals, (in ability and faculty) right?

  13. our country must feel that if the problem is left alone it will fix its self. just take gas prices for an example.
