Why don't we make it a law to stop making these gas hogging cars?

These large vehicles that people are driving is rediculous. I can understand if it for a farm or business, but otherwise, it's a waste of resources! Do Americans have to be so selfish?

  1. I Don't know about any bans, but a hefty luxery tax would make the people think twice about buying any of those cars and SUV's, Hummers & Escalades. Y'see the SUV's and Escalade's and Hummers and the like are nothing but "Bling Bling " machines, they're Status symbols that say I'm better than you. I agree it's very stupid to have something like a Hummer or a gas guzzlin' SUV when the cost of gas is going outta sight. (Here's a suggestion) why not car pool? or take the bus or a Taxi,i.e. Public Transportation? or bike it to school or to work if you're close enough and the weather is warm enough, nothing wrong with that is there? Look, I'm just givin'y'all some idea's to try. I mean no one likes paying $50 to a $100 dollars at the pump just to show off their Hummers or Escalades. Or are the owners of these vehicles that blind to the rising price of gas? Or do they just not give a d**n? if it sounds like I'm mad your dam right I'm upset,I used to live in Southern Calif. and I'd  see these people driving their 4x4 Escalades or Hummers and I would wonder if they are gonna use it for what it was meant for or are they just usin it fer a Status symbol just to say that they're better than you .I think that's a huge load of B.S. Now if you live way out in the country where you need a 4x4 to get in and out then yeh it's nessary to have something like a Hummer or a good sturdy  SUV or Truck that's what they were built for, for driving off road or pullin' someone out

of a ditch or crossin a creek. But if you live in the city and you never use the 4x4 option then what point is it to have something like that when the cost of gas is goin outta sight? It's stupid and not only that but it's a waste of time and money to buy one and use it only to show off.Why not buy a car or truck or van thats easy on gas and gets better gas milage than some SUV or "Bling Bling Machine" thats gonna cost ya big at the pump?

  2. Do U think u are actually qualified to make that statement.

  3. Yes, why don't we outlaw those things you don't like.  Here is my take, why don't we outlaw those UGLY hybrid cars that are NOT helping to lessen global warming, but do lessen the cool factor of anyone driving them.  Who's with me.

  4. The price of gasoline will force many to change. It is already. The new mileage standards will also force more fuel efficient cars to be produced. If we could relax our standards a bit so we could have the vehicles made for Europe it would help a lot. They have many vehicles over there getting over 50MPG. Take a look at the VW Polo with 60-70MPG. These cars are much cheaper than Hybrids and pollute less, but we can't have them. Are our regulations forcing us to pollute more?

  5. You mean like Adolf Hitler did with the Volkswagen Beetle. No thanks.

What's funny is that the EPA unknowingly created SUV's. They started squeezing out big cars in the '80's with tightening Emission and MPG standards. But not everyone wants or can use a small car. The trucks standards were always laxed since only farmers bought them. One day somebody put leather seats in a pick-up truck and it took off from there.

You do know they started making Chevy Suburbans in the 1950's right?

  6. umm i guess they can make those environmentally friendly cars where they run on oxygen/nitrogen or something like that but to be able to do this they'd need a huge amount of money and not many people would be able to afford those cars yet. I do believe though that they have started making these friendly cars but they're worth around in their millions? hmm it probably takes time until more people can afford it. For now i guess just take public transport. WOOT (cheers) Excercise Rocks!!!

  7. well. It's one part apathy from the people and one part corporate greed. most people don't give a d**n about the environment, sadly. They want to feel big, now. people can give me all the thumbs down they want, but it's the truth.

Another reason is the oil companies. Why would they make small efficient cars when they can sell gas guzzling beasts and make billions?

Do americans have to be so selfish? No, they just really want to be. If america stood up for themselves then the people would be in control not ExxonMobil

  8. In 38 years of driving, I've NEVER owned a gas hogging SUV!

Could we possibly  be just a little less sweeping in our generalizations?

  9. They did once .  Back in the 70's .  Congress made mileage requirements for car manufacturers .  Car styles changed .  A lot of 4 cylinders with turbo chargers got great gas mileage and had real get up and go .  Republican lawmakers gutted the law and made it possible for American auto makers to make these monster trucks .  We need to return to the mileage requirements.  We need to make all vehicles get at least 35 miles a gallon .

  10. The thing that ultimately will make the difference is people not buying a product, unfortunately the American auto makers are a bit slow in the thinking area when compared to the rest of the world.

The answer is Just Don't Do it.

Can't sell it if there is no demand.

  11. If we stop making them, the price of the existing stock of them goes up.

In a democracy, laws are made that please the majority. Or something like that.  We know that a lot of people will disagree with the ban the bus  objective. So that will not be very popular. It could scuttle political careers.

By contrast, a tax shift that loads current income taxes on those who use fossil fuels might even gain some traction... allowing people to actually avoid some taxes.

British Columbia is putting that into motion now, if somewhat cautiously.

  12. It would be unfair. What should be done is people should be informed that they don't need a large gas V8 to move their minivans, and reserve them for Mustangs and Vettes.

  13. because darling, money is what makes the world go round. and why would they stop making gas hogging cars when they want to sell the gas? if they really did, gas prices would sky rocket. it's supply and demand.

  14. I suppose you want our guns too.

  15. Because GM would prefer to manufacture a few very expensive massive vehicles rather than a lot of small commuter specials! It has to do with economies of scale in the manufacturing process! And the republicans aren't going to upset the corporate interests one d**n bit especially during an election when they want all those campaign funds to come in!

  16. What about big families? What about BIG people? A lot of people feel safer in big cars and are safer in them in terms of surviving an accident. Why should a law tell me what I can or can't drive??

  17. Not all of us americans are selfish, only the ones that have small lives and need to feel big!  Its an ego thing, it shows that you have the $$. And i dont feel bad for the "big people", if i was too big to fit in a car i think id be more worried about myself than worried about buying a car to fit my fat a** in.

  18. Because the oil companies would not allow anything that threatened there paycheck. And since they have the Bush administration in there pocket, they can get away with it.

They have to make the common man believe global warming is a myth so that they dont have to do anything about it. Owning up to the fact that oil is polluting the air, and the fact that we are quickly running out of it, would cost them millions of dollars to deal with.

As hard as it is to believe there are people in this country who do not think SUV's are bad for the environment. (i know right)

And simply put yes, Americans do have to be that selfish. They do not like to think that anything they do has repercussions. Because they choose to believe the lies of the Bush administration because it makes it easier for them to sleep at night. Its scary to think that global warming is real and will destroy the planet.

  19. Because we live in a free society.  Who died and put you in charge of what I drive?

  20. why dont we make it a law to stop propaganda like global warming?  last i checked its America, its a free country.  move to cuba, because you would be the perfect communist!
