Why don't we release any oil from the SPR?

Would releasing oil from the Strategic Reserve help out the average consumer? If released, we could always refill what we took, right? and one more.............................

Does the present gas situation count as a crisis?

Yes, it would be a great idea! but it ain't happening too much power involved in keeping it where it is.

I believe we have around 200 yrs worth of reserves. Now would be a good time to release some since in less than five years there will be a glut of oil due to changing technologies.
