Question:

Why don't we see many Knee Drops in Professional Wrestling anymore?

Triple H is probably the only person that still does the move. Booker T sometimes pulls it out.

However, I was just wondering what happened to the move. Is there a logical reason why we don't see them as much?

  1. It's not "spectacular" enough for today's fans.  Today we'd rather see Shooting Stars, Suicide Dives, chair shots, running kicks to the head, etc.

Triple H does the same knee-drop made famous by Harley Race, and to a lesser extent, Ric Flair, two old-school "dinosaurs" today's fans don't want to see.

Killer Kowalski had an absolutely devastating flying knee-drop from the second (sometimes top) turnbuckle that he used as a finisher, usually hitting his opponent's upper chest.  John Tolos used the same knee-drop at times, as well.  It was a spectacular flying move similar to Randy Savage's flying elbow-drop.  Kowalski is a very well-known trainer, I'm surprised his students don't use that move.

There really is no logical reason the knee-drop isn't used anymore.  My guess is the move is just too "old school", like the Atomic Drop (which few can do effectively anymore), the Abdominal Stretch, the Sleeper, the basic Headlock, and other moves that used to be common.  Today's fans want the cartoon-y moves.  Today's fans are too quick to chant "boring!" when the guys in the ring aren't risking their lives.

  2. i don't know but what i know wot u mean...whatever happened to the atomic drop as well we only ever see the inverted one which is ****. i think we should start a petition to get knee drops and atomic drops back in wwe

  3. its a different time era

  4. Not sure. I didn't even notice that untill you mentioned it. I think Triple H has a great kneedrop.

  5. There are actually two ways to botch a knee drop, and if a guy's not trained to exectute this move to perfection someone WILL get hurt.  If you put too much weight on one knee, you can smash the other guy's face pretty easily.  If you put too much weight on the other knee, you can suffer a number of different knee injuries (cracked patella, dislocated patella, etc)  Add to this fact, that the move IS considered by fans to be a very routine, or boring, move, and the benefits of using the move are quickly outweighed by the risks of using it.

  6. It's a couple who still does the move...

    Triple H

    Booker T

William Regal (He always uses knee drops)

Paul Burchill (I've seen him do it a couple of times... It's rare though)

Ted DiBiase Jr (He does them too, but on rare occasions)

Mike Knox (He did one last week lol)

Randy Orton (He still does them on a daily basis)

PS: Notice the people I listed are all technical (For the exception of a couple). My guess is that knee drops probably doesn't fit certain people styles of fighting. I know Vince loves to have everything perfect, so my guess is that he only gives them to people with a wrestling style that would fit the move.

  7. Yea, I know. The only people I have seen do it in a while is Randy Orton, Triple H & Booker T.

  8. Paul Birchil still does a knee drop sometimes, and i believe Mike Knox did one on ECW last week when he attacked finlay.

But yeah, not many people use that move nowadays, this is also the case with certain other old school wrestling holds and moves. I guess times change and the new wrestlers want to try and innovate new moves instead of using old school type moves.
