  1. Women swim the 1500 all the time -- but just not at the Olympics. The longest event at the Olympics for women is the 800m.  Whatever the reason for the difference between men's and women's distance events is, it can't be a very good one...

  4. i don't exactly know the answer but i was thinking that today. shouldn't men and woman have the same events, especially in the swimming. strange if u ask me

I wrote the Olympic committee a few years ago about this and got a rude and indifferent response.  In all other competition, women do swim the 1500, yet somehow, in the Olympics they do not.  Funny as a triathlete is required to swim it coupled with the 26.2 mile run and biking leg.  I wish they would include it but not that many people are that interested in changing it so it goes as is.   I have coached swimmers as young as 12 who regularly compete in the event so it is clearly not an issue at an olympic level.
