The in-laws don't like eating out. I love it. Good food and drinks served to you, and no dishes! We gave them a gift cert to use because we thought it was the $, but they still won't go. And they aren't the healthiest people either.

If you don't like eating out, why not?

  1. Take a tour of the kitchen before you order. It will change your mind!

  2. Maybe they dont like the diffrent atmosphers when you go to these places.  They could just be old fashion and enjoy the privacy, and enjoy the whole family tradition thing.

  3. Many reasons - some previously discussed.

    1. Cleanliness - after working in restaurants I know that can vary widely.  I know how clean I keep my kitchen.  Even if the kitchen is clean, is the wait staff maintaining themselves - think of how many times you've seen someone walk out of a restroom without washing their hands.

    2. Diet - no, I'm not saying I'm on a diet.  However, when I cook something I know what goes into it.  As a diabetic it is hard for me to eat out when I don't know the nutritional information regarding the food I eat.  Case in point, if you go to the chain "Chili's" beware of the corn on the cob.  It has 55 grams of carbohydrates due to the fact that they soak it in sugar water for flavor; according to CalorieKing.Com a large ear of corn has only 27 grams of carbs (ouch).

    3. Experience - as someone mentioned previously, I don't enjoy eating dinner while someone allows their kids to run amok.  Unfortunately, that happens all to often at many restaurants.  In addition, many restaurants are designed to allow you to be comfortable for only so-much time (varies with restaurant).  This allows them to "turn" the table in an appropriate amount of time to keep things moving.  If you don't know what I mean, trying holding a quiet coversation at most P.F. Changs - they are very noisy.  Continuing this, I for one don't like watching folks eat with their mouth open, talk with mouths full of food or otherwise being rude as they eat.

    4. Service - we went out last night to dinner.  It took nearly 10 minutes till we saw a person from the wait staff (we ask the host about it at the 5 minute mark); we had sketchy service (they said too many people were out sick); and the table was never bussed - yes, appetizer dishes sitting there as we ate desert.

    5. Taste - I for one don't like a lot of salt in my food.  I find that many restaurants have salted food too much to "enhance" flavor.  What I cook at home is to my taste.

That all being said, we do go out to eat - typically once a week.  But we are very selective about where we go.

  4. Because of all the breeders who insist on taking their brats into the restaurants in the U.S. and let them make the place sound like eating in a child day care center.

In civilized countries, it's NOT considered proper to take CHILDREN into restaurants... it's an AmeriKan thing.

  5. They probably don't like change.  It might be too much trouble to get dress to go out.  But like you I love to eat out , "no work"

  6. My brother in law does not like eating out.  He feels like people are watching him eat and is self conscious.  Personally, I love to go out to eat.  Most people are concentrating on what they are eating and could care less about watching me eat!

  7. Some people just do not like going out in public....they much prefer the quiet and comfort of home.  Personally I love eating out for the reasons you mentioned.....However....I hate it when mom or dad bring all the screaming kids to a quiet restaurant....If they must bring the kids, they should go somewhere appropriate like McDonalds....Not the quite restaurant where I am trying to share a nice meal with my girlfriend

  8. I like cooking my own food, cleaning up doesnt bother me either.

I love eating out if the place is clean, and has great service and most of all great food

Take the gift card back, buy them a roast to cook themselves

    lol

  9. i really enjoy preparing my own meals  unless i have to entertain  out of town friends  then it out to dining

  10. Because it is hard to find good service and good food anymore.....so I do not go out as much anymore.

  11. "One is one and all alone and ever more shall be so"

<Table for one> still feels a little odd, after all these years.

If I'm travelling it's inevitable but I don't seek out dining alone.

Some restaurants are fine if you take a good book or a crossword for company, but in other places it at least feels like it's looked down on.

Edit: In reply to noplomojovens:  in France, at least, children largely know how to behave and there is little or no problem with them in restaurants.

It's not a resturant problem: it's an upbringing problem.

  12. I love eating out...

and the girlfriend really likes it!!!

  13. a) Some people like to know everything about the food they are eating - they may not trust the cooks.

    b) They may also be allergic to specific ingredients and a re not willing to take the chance.

    c) They may simply have had bad experiences in the past.
