  1. The reason is that because they fly in such close formation, and any slight movement of the control column could be catastrophic.  Blues pilots rest their right arms on their right leg when they fly.  Inflating of the G suit at the wrong time could cause an inadvertent movement of the control column.  So it is purely a safety issue.  This answer is not a guess, it is factual based on numerous documentaries on the Blue Angels, and this reason has been stated in several of these, including the one titled "Blue Angels, a year in the life".  And in case some would ask why the Thunderbirds do not have this same issue, one reason is that the F-16 that the Thunderbirds fly has a sidestick control column.  Therefore their pilots never rest their elbows on their knees, but on  a built in armrest in the cockpit.

  2. agcatav8's right - check the Blue Angel's

website below - their faq answer #15.

  3. this is a guess - i'll ask my navy pilot friend -

the duration of their high g maneuvers is short, so it is unnecessary, they just (yeah, like we could all do this) flex the muscles in their neck to keep the blood in or out....same as any stunt pilot in a extra 300.
