Good question and here is the truth,

Generally speaking in Asian countries, atheletes are not as well idolized and respected as atheletes in the US or Europe. That's why many Asian parents don't want their kids to put sports ahead of academics. Academics is the key to everything in the Asian culture, and because of this situation, a lot of talented Asians are being buried because they don't get chances to show their skills in this type of culture.

Basketball require height.  Asain are shorter then your average black or white.  I'm sure you'll be seeing more asian as China begin to play more basketball.

There was a time when you would hardly see any European player but now there are lots of them.

Well, most of the Asian prospects are from China, and probably not many players in China want to play in the NBA. Then in the US, there are not as many Asians who are serious at basketball. I've only heard of Asians playing in community or pickup games, not educational institutes like colleges. correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't heard of any Asian American basketball players in high school or the NCAA.

2. system - one needs to get to an ncaa school to have chance at nba. how does an asian do that? if he can even go to ncaa school he's better off pursuing college degree and working after than nba.

3. asian basketball stars and even european stars can earn good money at home, not same as nba money, but enough to live well there. going to US involves much risk for them probably giving up their basketball career over there.

The NBA prefers brand of play that excites people every game. The blacks have that prowess and skill. Europeans have skills that are different from the blacks. It becomes more exciting to watch europeans blend their play with the blacks. And it will be more exciting if asians join in the league because they too have their own skills different from blacks and europeans. Later, that could be realized...
