Because the ships are in cold weather locations, like Alaska where they can't go in winter.

There are a few ships that go to Hawaii in the summer, but you're right that in general the cruise lines move them elsewhere.

Basically, a cruise line like Princess can get more money by sending their ships to Alaska than Hawaii.  People *really* want to go to Alaska and will pay top dollar for it.  When it gets too cold to go to Alaska, then the ships go to Hawaii and other destinations.

A lot of them do, but the ones that dont have several reasons

1. less people cruise in the summer, they are already on vacation spring break and winter vaction are more popular for cruises

2. with all of the other summer traffic navigating the water would be hard

3. the ships also try to go to locations they cant get to in winter months, like greenland and alaska

Norwegian Cruise Lines does. Starts in Honolulu and ends in Honolulu. If you are trying to go from the main land to Hawaii, they are usually seasonal and called repositioning cruises
